League Rules

Running clock except for time outs, free throws and the last 2 minutes of the game if the score is within 10 points

8 minute quarters

2 time outs per half.  Time outs are 1-minute time outs.

Half time will be 3 minutes

In the event of a tie there will be one 3-minute overtime.  If still tied there will be an additional 1 minute overtime and the first team to score wins.

High School Rules except where specified within age group

Girls in 2nd grade or older will always use a girl’s sized ball regardless of age

Four (4) players needed to start the game

Please have your team there on time. There will be a five-minute grace period and then a forfeit will occur

K-1st grade

27.5” ball

8 ft baskets

Mandatory subs every at 4 minutes

If there is a 25 point lead by either team, the score will be reset to 0-1 to avoid embarrassment or discouragement.

No press beyond half court and not stealing except on the pass or a loose ball.

Man to man defense required and must guard same colored wrist band.  No purposeful double-teaming. Some double-teaming may inadvertently happen at times when ball-handlers move through the defense or stop their dribble around the floor. Referee discretion will determine a purposeful double-team.

Shot blocking is not allowed. If defender’s hands are straight up, it may result in a blocked shot.

Free throws will not be attempted on a shooting foul

2nd – 3rd grade

28.5” ball

9 ft baskets (2nd grade girls play on 8 ft baskets)

Mandatory subs every 4 minutes and clock will stop

If there is a 25-point lead by either team, the score will be reset to 0-1 to avoid embarrassment or discouragement.

Stealing on dribble is legal (2nd grade girls cannot steal except on the pass or loose ball).  Reaching motion will be called a foul regardless of contact.

No press beyond half court

Man to man defense required with wrist bands used to help the kids.  Switching is allowed.  Help defense is allowed.  No purposeful double-teaming. Some double-teaming may inadvertently happen at times when ball-handlers move through the defense or stop their dribble around the floor. Referee discretion will determine a purposeful double-team.

4th-7th grades

4th-5th grade 28.5” ball

6th-7th grade 29.5” ball

10 ft baskets (girls 4th and 5th will stay at 9 foot)

Subs on dead ball

5th grade and above can full court press, but not if ahead by more than 15 points (no press for 4th grade)

*Infractions like traveling, double dribble, illegal screens and zone defense (for the younger ages) will be called.  There will be a progression of enforcement over the duration of the season.  For example, in the beginning, for a 2nd grade team, travel will be called but not result in a turnover.  Towards the middle/end of the season, that infraction will result in a turnover.

**Please address any officiating concerns with the league representatives on Monday.  Please do not address with the referees directly.  Please do not address with a league representative on game day.  This will allow everyone time to be removed from the emotional situation.  We are committed to the quality of the game and the development of the kids.  We encourage respectful feedback and are committed to improved change.
